A building kit of a moving, mechanical owl inspired by Greek mythology. Hephaestus, the god of fire and blacksmithing, created the mechanical owl Bubo for Athena, who then gave it to Perseus as a protector and guide on his journey to the Stygian Witches.
The mechanical Cyber Owl consists of numerous gears and gear trains. By manually turning the wheel on its back, the owl begins to lift its wings, turn its head, and roll its eyes. The balanced color combination references the work of the mythical blacksmith-mechanic Hephaestus, who crafted the owl from brass, iron, gold, and rubies.
To achieve a flawless appearance, many custom-shaped ABS parts feature a metallic-plated surface that perfectly replicates "steel" and "gold" components. The owl stands on sturdy legs ending in sharp talons.
The package includes a small lighting module. The LED light is guided to the pupils via fiber-optic tubing. The model is powered by three L44 (AG13) button cell batteries. The lighting enhances the overall effect of the owl model. The light intensity is subtle and is not intended for room illumination. The batteries are replaceable. Experienced builders can also replace the manual mechanical drive with an electric one; this modification requires purchasing a separate battery box and an M-type motor.
The assembled model measures 16.2 cm in length, 19.5 cm in width, and 29.6 cm in height.
